adhdday

I published this yesterday, then deleted it, then made a change, and I'm republishing. It had two sentences in it that I decided were inappropriate for this context. But, in the few minutes that it was here, I got several comments and hate that I don't still have them. Is there anyway to get them back? I got 4 emails asking why I deleted the post, and I really think it was up there less than an hour. After listening and replying to them, I thought I'd throw it back up here, sans a little bit of it. Not that it's interesting, but just because I wrote it and that's the purpose of this for me. Just to put anything and everything that I want here. If I have things I want to write about that are more private, I might make another space. I don't think so though, my life's pretty much an open blog.

I thank everyone for their comments and feel free to repost.

Feb 23

Some days more than others my adhd is a problem. Today is one. I went to run errands with a friend, and I must have wandered off in stores a dozen times. At one time, she wanted me to help her with something, and a salesman was also helping us. He went to check on something, and I found myself reading the backs of TV tuner card boxes to see what would fit my laptop and how much they were. Then I remembered her and went back across the store and acted like I'd been there the whole time. Then she said something, and then I was playing Playstation 3, 3! that was set up and there was a Nascar game, and it did hold my attention until I noticed she was next to me to see if I could come back over and help her. I felt so bad. This is not just rude behavior, I wanted to help her, and I would not do anything rude to her, ever. I just don't know what happens. It is funny in a way I know, and usually my antics amuse me and those around me. But sometimes I really really try to behave, and I just can't.

I think later I'm going to write a little about add and adhd, it's a very important part of my life, influencing about everything, and SO many people have it and don't know it. It's a lot easier to handle when you know you have it, and you learn coping skills. AND, you learn to enjoy the great things about it!   Wanna Ride Bikes?  Jan

Hey, I just made a Group

I was fooling around with my site, and saw the group stuff on the home page. I didn't see anywhere to 'browse' groups to see if I wanted to join one, so I tried making my own. It took 3 clicks...lol.

So, please join my group. Nope don't know what it's about...probably a lot of ADHD stuff though, not sure, we'll figure that out.  Jan      http://sidetracked.groups.live.com/

ADHD Baby Likes Ducks

I'm participating in a school project with my niece in Seattle. It involves her writing me letters and asking things about my life, and me sending letters back, telling stories from my childhood on. I wrote the first one, which was about my "early years". Thinking about my early childhood of course brought up all kinds of memories. But one glaring thing stood out: I could have been the poster child for ADHD. In the fifties and sixties, I know they knew of Attention Deficit (Hyperactive) Disorder, but I hadn't heard of it, and I know until the seventies, it wasn't much publicized. And for many years, they said adults and females did not have it. If I was growing up now, I think by the time I was two, parents and pretty much everyone around me would have figured it out. I always HAD to be doing something. When I was two, my dad and siblings and I were waiting in the park in downtown Houston for my mom to get off of work. Waiting is not something I've ever been good at. I jumped in the huge pond to get a duck. My dad picked me up by the back of my sunsuit, and I was yelling, "I wanna quack-quack". Well, I was bored, the ducks were there, what was I supposed to do?

When I was writing the letter, all I could think of were incidences that are so clearly ADHD related, but at the time, I was just a hyper kid who couldn't sit still. Academically school was always very easy, but my behavior was so bad I got paddled every year but fourth grade. Most years I was the only girl in the class to do so. Until now, I never really thought much about it, but hey, that's not very common, didn't anyone wonder what the problem was? I was never mean, I'd just get in trouble for talking, interrupting the teacher, laughing and making others laugh. "Disrupting the classroom" is what notes home always said.

It's a whole new world, and people are realizing what a gift and asset ADHD can often be if managed properly. I'd like to manage mine properly. lol.   Jan

Dollar Day

Crisis. I have no cookies. I stole a Little Debbie's Oatmeal Cream Pie out of somebody's box in the kitchen. Shhh, don't tell. No nutritional value, but somehow I feel better.

I'm going to try to use the same organizational system I used for many years that worked so well for me. My life then was: raising 3 GREAT kids, having a home day care- keeping 3-5 kids in addition to my own three 50 hours a week, going to college 3 nights a week, and BEING HAPPY. My home was so clean and organized I constantly got comments, and taught the system to some of my day care moms.

So, umm, if I can get away from here, I guess I'll start. Here I go. I'm going now. Hey, remember that commercial with the little boy running away from home, and he was saying that? What was that for? Soup? I don't know. What are/were your favorite commercials? My favorite ever was the elephant dancing in the rain in the jungle. Wasn't that long ago. I also LOVE the one where the boy's with his mom at the bank and he starts putting stuff in the vacuum tube. It flies out and hits cars in the drive-through. He's definitely ADHD. I love him. Pat just called, Goodwill has all their clothes for a dollar today, I gotta go.  jan

Technorati Tags: ,,,

I need to regroup. While working only a few weeks, my life fell apart. As it does every time I do that. And I know what I need to do, I just don't do it. I know that being ADHD, I have to be extremely organized or my whole world is chaos. I've lived both ways, and I don't know why I have not been organized the past few years. But I want to change that, and am going to start working on it today. Right after I have a cookie or two.  jan

ADD/ADHD Stuff

I was going to post about ADD/ADHD, and started looking at my ADD articles, and well, I found some humorous stuff, but most of it's not really that humorous to me, I read these and usually just think hmmmm...yep yep yep while nodding my head. Yes, that was 3 yeps.

So, when I found the You Know You Have ADD when... thingys, I thought of these things that have happened to me, today...so far...

I took two purses out today because I didn’t know what was in which one.

I often open the microwave to put in a frozen dinner and there’s a used-to-be-frozen dinner in there from 2 hours ago.

You can spot a lot of us by the coffee cups on top of our cars.

Here’s some “You know you have ADD when…” taken from various, umm, okay, I don’t remember which sites, I’ve just collected them. The first one, I actually wrote something similar a couple of days ago, because it was true!

You know you have ADD when...you give in to the fact that you can't stand doing the same job for more than 6 months and become a "career temp" (5 yrs & counting...)

You know you have ADD when...you literally can create 4 - 5 valid resumes reflecting your work history for the past 20 years, and no two are in the same field!

You know you have ADD when...you ask someone the same question 6 times and can't remember anything but how funny they would look with a cow bell on their neck!

You know you have ADD when...you start to clean out a closet and eight hours later it is more disorganized than when you began.

I've cleaned up my room so well I couldn't get to the door to get out. Many times.

You know you have ADD when...you are channel-surfing on TV, with an open book on your lap that you are highlighting in two colors while listening to music, playing with the cat and talking on the phone, when your partner enters the room to ask a question and you get annoyed at the interruption!

You know you have ADD when...You have 3000 bookmarks in your browser.

You know you have ADD when...you have more and better toys than most children.

You know you have ADD when...your mother clips Calvin and Hobbes cartoons to fill in the gaps of your childhood album

You know you have ADD when...You know you are a professional with ADD when you go to the supply room 6 times for a paper clip and never get it. (although you have brought everything else back, and have gone through the office refrigerator 5 times)

You know you have ADD when...you can talk to someone for 15 minutes and not remember what the other person said, let alone what you said.

You know you have ADD when...you change your order at a restaurant once for every other person in your party as they order, since what each person is ordering sounds really good at the moment. Wait-staff hate you. Then you always want to taste something off another person's plate, an

You know you have ADD when...you dart around in traffic to avoid being behind a tall vehicle that blocks your view, then at the mall you do the same thing in crowds of people.
